Join Photonic's Quantum Systems Integration team as an Automation Systems Engineer and help shape the future of quantum computing in Canada. You'll architect the critical software infrastructure that orchestrates our groundbreaking quantum processors, directly impacting how the world's first truly scalable quantum computing platform operates. This role offers the unique opportunity to blend cutting-edge quantum science with robust software engineering while collaborating with world-class scientists and engineers.
**Key Responsibilities**
• Develop and maintain sophisticated software systems for quantum processor control, including experiment orchestration, device management, calibration protocols, and data analysis pipelines
• Partner with quantum engineers, modeling specialists, and software teams to transform experimental needs into production-ready automation solutions
• Establish software frameworks that ensure quality, scalability, and reliability across all development contributions
• Execute automated hardware testing protocols and provide comprehensive feature integration feedback
• Create clear documentation and user resources, enabling scientists and engineers to effectively utilize and expand your automation tools
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, mentorship, and implementation of industry best practices
**Required Qualifications**
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of industry experience (quantum background beneficial)
• Expert-level Python proficiency (3+ years commercial experience) in production environments, including packaging, testing, optimization, and data processing
• Hands-on experience with physical system interfaces or complex workflow management (instrumentation control, experimental automation, or data pipeline development)
• Proficiency in modern development tools: Bitbucket, Git, code review processes, CI/CD pipelines, and API architecture
• Strong analytical capabilities in data analysis and practical statistics for experimental evaluation
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities with proven track record of managing competing priorities
• Outstanding communication skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration
